Since we spend most of Friday counting down to 6 p.m. anyway, we’re going to skip the daytime activities today and go straight to after hours. Head over to the Rock and Roll Hotel tonight to check out Crooked Tree, a DC-based band that’s just beginning to make its dent on the District’s music scene. Their strong roots/Americana sound is the perfect way to relax your way into the weekend. This talented quintet prides themselves on poignant songwriting and a sound that reads somewhere along the lines of Steve Earle. In the words of drummer Ben Potok, “the sound of the band is a mix of americana, folk, blues, and even some country western. We have three singers/songwriters so there is good variety.” Potok said they’re looking forward to the show in a venue with such great acoustics. Though an album release is still in the works, for just $10 (plus sets from Sol Roots Trio and Orchard Wall to open things up), what’s not to like?
