    The cheesiest (but best) Valentine’s I have ever had was a few years ago, I was dating a guy who totally forgot Valentine’s Day. On the morning of, I asked what his plans for us were. He got wide-eyed, and in a panic, called a fancy restaurant, which was booked, so he tried to bribe them with a “George Washington”, and was promptly hung up on. How can you not giggle at that?

    So instead, we planned an elaborate dinner of our own, getting fancy ingredients from Wegman’s, and inviting a group of our close friends over, and making all of them our Valentines. Totally different, totally cheesy, totally fun. We spent the day with LOTS of people we loved!

    My 8th boyfriend mailed some roses and a card that had Lauryn Hill’s “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You” lyrics to my house.

    Like all middle school relationships, we broke up two weeks later.

    My cheesiest Valentine’s Day gift was a teddy bear from Vermont Teddy Bear Company that my husband ordered over the phone from a commercial he heard on a sports radio station.

    The cheesiest gift I’ve received was a mix tape two years ago.  Not a mix CD, not a mix playlist.  A mix tape.  John-Cusack in-High-Fidelity-style. It was incredibly sweet, and only slightly tainted by the fact that I did not have a cassette player, and had no idea where to find one.

    Cheesiest V-day: I received a package of sugar with a note saying–”because you’re so sweet” in a hand cut misshapen paper heart card. :)

    I don’t know that I have ever received a cheesy Valentine’s gift. We don’t usually celebrate the day.

    For those couples that want that skin to skin contact while holding hands in cold weather…The Smitten (get it? like mitten). It’s a red, heart shaped pouch with two hand holes so you can hold hands inside the same mitten. I got it for Valentines day and (thank god) never actually had to use it in public.

    My cheesiest V-Day gift was being taken out for dinner….a week late!  My husband forgot about V-Day, so took me out a week later, when he had a night off!
