Over the next few weeks, we’ll have area photographers take to the streets to capture their neighborhoods from a local’s point of view. This week, Eckington resident Danielle Scruggs, brings her Neighborhood In Focus with shots from her community and nearby Bloomingdale.
“I’m originally from Chicago and first came to this fair city in the early ‘00s (yes, I’m old) to attend Howard University. Since then, I’ve moved around a bit, having lived in Shaw, LeDroit Park, the U Street Corridor and Silver Spring. Now that I’ve landed in Eckington, however, I don’t know if I’ll ever leave. There’s beautiful Victorian-era architecture, the Metropolitan Branch Trail connects me to several different neighborhoods, and there’s wonderful public art in unexpected places. the area has also grown and expanded tremendously with the addition of great pubs, pizza places, coffee shops, and more within the past two years, while also retaining a quiet, peaceful, small-town vibe. To me, Eckington is a place filled with hidden charms and it definitely feels like home.” -Danielle Scruggs
