It took a while for winter to get here, but DC, we’ve made it. On the first cold day of the year, we ventured into Georgetown’s beautiful hidden gem, Dumbarton Oaks, with local songsters Typefighter to play an exclusive show. Unfortunately, Dumbarton wasn’t too keen on our plan, and before the trio could strike a chord, security rushed in and gave us the boot. So we relocated to a random thicket in adjacent Montrose Park to get the world’s first glance at “You When You’re Older,” a track off the band’s forthcoming full-length album.
Typefighter got its start in 2009, and, after a few line-up changes, is composed of William Waikart, Thomas Orgren, and frontman Ryan McLaughlin. This folksy trio has garnered its share of attention around town, and with an album due out early-mid 2012 and tour dates to follow the hype is only going to escalate. Check out their website for songs, merch, and “unforgettable memories of [the band] holding hands and crying,” according to McLaughlin. Classic.
